I remember as a little girl times when I would stay with my grandmother. I used to love jumping out of bed and running to Nana's kitchen. The smells of coffee and toast always greeted me. Sitting myself down at her table, Nana would bring me a cold glass of milk and a couple slices of toast. Accompanied by a warm smile, Nana would always make these mornings A Little Bit Extra special by dusting my buttered toast with fragrant cinnamon. To my young mind, these slices of browned bread started the days off well.
CINNAMON TOAST
Yield: 6 Servings
8 slices white bread
1/4 pound butter, softened
2 teaspoons cinnamon
2 teaspoons sugar
1 cup brown sugar
Cut crusts from bread. Toast until golden, spread with butter. Mix
cinnamon with sugar and brown sugar. Pile on buttered
toast. Toast under broiler or in toaster oven until glazed.
