Title of Book: Rekindled By Tamera Alexander BACK COVER: Colorado Territory 1868 Ten years ago Kathryn Jennings made a vow. For better or worse. And that promise still holds true, even though her marriage has not turned out as she expected. When her husband fails to return home one stormy winter night, she struggles to keep their ranch, but her efforts are blocked at every turn. After a shocking glimpse into her husband’s past, Kathryn uncovers a hidden truth. What she wouldn’t give to turn back time and be able to love her husband for the man that he was, not for the man she always wanted him to be. Larson Jennings has spent his entire life running from a broken past, unable to trust, reluctant to try again. One fateful night, his life takes an unexpected twist, and soon he is forced to make a choice. Whatever he chooses, his decision may cost him his life. REVIEWER’S COMMENTS: Rekindled had me hooked from chapter one. It was the first of Tamera Alexander’s books I’d read, and I’m always a bit leery of unfamiliar authors. After finishing the Fountain Creek Series in a week (of which Rekindled is the first), it’s safe to say I enjoy her work. With financial and physical hardships, Kathryn Jennings might be figuratively tried by fire, but her husband Larson goes through the fire quite literally. Help comes from the most unexpected place, and through the scars, he learns what trust really means. Now to tell Kathryn…The only problem is, she believes him dead, and he’s too ashamed of his warped features to tell her otherwise. Through a unique plot and a handful of loveable characters, Rekindled demonstrates God’s grace toward us. Larson experiences this, and it changes his life. Kathryn begins to look at her husband through God’s eyes and is finally able to love him for who he is. But before they can get to that point, the plot twists and turns leaving the reader quite breathless. I was sad to put the Jennings’ tale aside, but knew I was in for another adventure with book two—Revealed. Stay tuned for the review. |
