I Heart Bloomberg
By Melody Carlson

BACK COVER:

Kendall's managed to wrangle her grandmother's house free and clear except for the rules. No male roommates. But that's ok; with the right ad she'll pull in some girls, their rent, and if she's lucky, she won't have to go to work any time soon. For their part, Anna, Lelani, and Megan all have their reasons for wanting to move in: Anna has got to get out from under her overprotective parents, Lelani can't take another day in her aunt's tiny crackerbox house overflowing with toddlers, and Megan needs a place free of her current roommate from Hades. Though they come with assorted extra baggage filled with broken hearts and dreams, they will discover they also have a vast array of hidden strengths. As they struggle to become the women they want to be, they'll find new hope, and maybe even Kendall will learn a thing or two about life, love and the true meaning of friendship.

REVIEWER’S COMMENTS:

I Heart Bloomberg is the story of 4 women of very different backgrounds and personalities who become room-mates. Kendall is the spoiled, self-centered owner of the house who decides to rent her extra bedrooms so she won't have to go to work. She definitely gets more than she bargained for in Megan, Lelani, and Anna. Megan is looking for a place to live to escape sharing a 2 bedroom apartment with 3 other women. She is dealing with the recent death of her father as well as attempting to find a job. Lelani has come from Hawaii to escape some mistakes she made in the past. She is currently living with her aunt and uncle and their small children in a tiny house. She rents the room to escape an uncomfortable living situation. Anna is of Mexican heritage and lives at home with her overprotective parents. She wants to get out from under her parents and become her own person. She has already broken family tradition by not working in the family restaurant. The house that Kendall advertises is not quite as "luxurious" as she makes it out to be in the ad. When the 3 renters see it, they quickly re-negotiate the contract to lower the rent in return for fixing up the house. As the three renters work on the house together, they draw closer together which isolates them further and further from Kendall. Kendall runs away from home as a result. Using the example of the prodigal son, Megan realizes they must accept Kendall back with loving acceptance. Kendall realizes that she must change and the stage is set for the next book is this sequel.

Each of the chapters of this book is told from the perspective of a different woman. Ms. Carlson does a great job of developing each of the women's characters in the first four chapters and subsequently throughout the book. I couldn't wait to see what Kendall was going to do next and the reactions of her three renters. The next book in the 86 Bloomberg Place series will be a must read for me.
