Wounded Healer
By Donna Fleisher

63944: Wounded Healer, Homeland Heroes Series #1

“So, now, tell me this. Why? Rinny…why am I like this?” Chris immediately regretted asking the question, but a part of her truly wanted to know. She glanced at Erin. Saw the hesitation.

“Chris, please. Don’t be afraid.” So very slowly, Erin moved closer as she said the words.

Chris took a step backward.

“Please, Chris. You once asked me to trust you; trust me now.” Erin slowly reached down and took Chris’s hand.

Chris tensed. Why? She trusted Erin. Didn’t she? Who else had proved to be a more trustworthy friend? Still, she tried to pull her hand away. Erin held on. Chris looked up at her.

Erin spoke so very softly. “I don’t want to crowd you, Chris. Try to hear me out. This is just a simple touch. It’s just a way to show you that I care about you. You know I do. And you know I’d never hurt you.”

The words grated against her like sandpaper. “I know, Rinny.”
Excerpt from Wounded Healer

“A man that hath friends must show himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.” Proverbs 18:24 (KJV)

Donna Fleisher does a superb job of creating a character that truly exemplifies Proverbs 18:24. This is a novel of friendship despite all odds, of loyalty regardless of personal sacrifice, and of compassion for those hurting. From start to finish, Donna stresses the importance of earthly friendships mirroring the friendship that Christ wants to have with us.

Army Lieutenant Erin Grayson and Army Specialist Christina McIntyre are bound together by a brief war and the memories they share bring laughter and sorrow. The horrors of war have left scars on them both, but without the Lord, Chris is drowning her guilt in alcohol.

An unexpected tragedy brings Erin to Chris’ side after years of separation. As she attempts to walk Chris through the process of dealing with her past, she is rejected, abused, and hurt. Can Erin’s faith hold out long enough to bring Chris to Christ?

Wonded Healer took me on a twister ride through action scenes, desperate tears, and outbursts of anger that made me want to jump in and intervene to rescue the characters. I thoroughly enjoyed not only the plot, but the bit of history learned about the gulf war. The realization of the full effects on those directly involved in war was eye-opening.

Hoo-aah, Donna!
