Title of Book: The Love Song ![]() By Anita Higman & Janice A. Thompson BACK COVER: Clumsy. Invisible. Ugly. This is how Clair O'Neal would describe herself on a good day. Coming from an abusive childhood, she is painfully shy and sees herself as a misfit. So when she promises her boss she'll represent her company at a high-society event, she finds herself completely out of her element. Image coach Glenn Yves urges Clair to join the party, seeing something in her she cannot see herself. Musician Hudson Mandel rescues her from a moment of likely humiliation. Both men find themselves drawn to Clair's unassuming presence, her inner beauty, and maybe even her vulnerability. Can Clair trust their interest and their motives? After so many years without love, would God really bring two men into her life and make her choose between them? REVIEWER’S COMMENTS: Clair O'Neal manages a book store and lives her life as a loner. Her one friend is Ima, the older woman who owns the book store. Clair attends a party at the request of her friend and meets two men who both seem interested in her. She accepts a ride home with Glenn Yves who offers to help her with her image as a favor to someone who once did the same for him. After Clair's friend dies and leaves her the bookstore, Clair realizes she must come out of her shell in order to run the store and deal with the public. Clair accepts his offer and begins her transformation. At the same time, she finds herself falling for Hudson Mandel, a local musician. Before Clair can accept the attention of these two men, she must deal with her past and allow the Lord to heal her of her pain. As she struggles with the decision of what to do with the bookstore, an old acquaintance from her past enters her life and helps her to face her fear enabling her to let go of the suffering she experienced at the hand of her stepfather. As Clair struggles to deal with her grief over the loss of Ima, she recalls many wonderful tidbits of wisdom that her friend has taught her over the years. For example, Ima once told Clair that "God gives us opportunities. He opens doors, but we have to decide to walk through them." Also, intermingled with these beautiful words of wisdom, the authors weave the 23rd Psalm throughout the story. Clair uses these verses to help her through different situations that she finds herself in. For example, when Clair must face the attic where all her fear seems to be centered, she recalls the verse that says, "He guides me in paths of righteousness." I enjoyed this book. It was a beautiful love story of how God loves us and desires to draw us to a quiet, intimate place where he can shepherd us and provide for us. Even when we don't feel lovable our Lord loves us and sees us as beautiful. AUTHORS' INFORMATION: Anita Higman hopes to give her audience a "gasp and a giggle" when they read her stories.
